Wagireh Sampler Rugs

Wagireh or vagireh rugs traditionally woven as small portable samplers to show the colours and motifs to be incorporated in a full sized rug. They were also woven as apprentice pieces and as templates for weavers to use as a kind of library index of different types of carpet designs. Some are signed and in almost all carpet weaving areas, in our age of photography and computer graphics, they are no longer woven. Some antique pieces demonstrate great skill in weaving and contain beautiful natural dyes.
