Late 18th to early 19th century showman's stick

A beautifully carved antique showman's stick from the late 18th to early 19th century, found in Ireland but possibly English. The horsehead is carved from hard Hickory wood in an assured and expressive style reminiscent of early fairground horses. The carving is in good condition with a crack along the grain on one side of the handle. The stick has a repaired break visible in the photos and has its original capped metal tip.

The stick is 86 cm long and the handle is 14cm long. €175
